Kern County Woman Injured During Attempted Rescue Of 2 Dogs In Mobile-Home Fire

JOHANNESBURG (CBSLA.com) — Crews were on the scene of a fire Thursday that erupted in a double-wide mobile home.

According to the Kern County Fire Department, firefighters were sent just after 2 p.m. to the 27700 block of Goler Road for report of heavy smoke and flames in a residence behind the Johannesburg Community Center.

Firefighters worked to protect exposures to a nearby shed and home.

According to crews, the fire was extinguished in about 45 minutes.

The residence where the fire originated was near total loss, authorities explained.

About $1,500 in damage was done to the shed.

A woman was transported to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation burns.

Firefighters believe she reentered the home prior before crews arrived on scene to retrieve her dogs, which unfortunately perished in the blaze.

An adult male was displaced by the fire, but declined assistance from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
