Friday, detectives were contacted with information regarding the identity of the two men, and learned the investigation was a misunderstanding.

The two men were reportedly embarrassed after seeing the story on local media outlets. They immediately came forward to explain their side of the story.

One of the suspects  agreed to meet with detectives at the police department.

That man, Rolando Garcia, also spoke to KCAL9's Crystal Cruz.

According to police, the man is a successful local business owner, who explained he was shopping at the market with his business partner to purchase items to celebrate their successful year.

While shopping, he saw the mother and son, and offered compliments on how beautiful her son was. He went on to explain her child resembled his own son at that age.

After purchasing items and returning to his car, the man noticed the woman and son were parked next to his vehicle.

He explained to detectives he saw this as a sign to be generous, and proceeded to remove a $100 bill and said: "Please take and use it to buy your son something."

He said the woman refused to take the money multiple times, so he left it as what he described a "good deed" and drove away from the market

The woman went on to explain that the situation seemed strange as the man was complimenting her son so much.

Garcia told Cruz he was shocked when he saw the story on local news and realized police were talking about him.

"Look at this! Oh my God! What. what, what is this?," he said.

Garcia was stunned to find out that he and his business partner were suspected of the egregious crime.

"I reached into my pocket got a $100 and then just give to her and say happy new year. 'You have a handsome kid, he looks so much like my son when he was little. And then she was in shock saying no, no, no, no," Garcia said.

Rolando says his trucking company in Baldwin Park had a great 2014, he feels blessed and just wanted to give the mother a gift.

Police found out from acquaintances that Garcia is a very generous man and what happened at the store wasn't unusual. Garcia is a giver.

"Everything checks out. He's just a kind man giving some money to a family he felt needed it," said Covina Police Department Officer Gregg Peterson.

Gqrcia told Cruz he isn't going to stop giving out money and says he has his own children and definitely doesn't need any more.

"I laugh about it because, look,, I have two kids and they are plenty. They keep me pretty busy," said Garcia.

Police spoke to the mother of the child who made the original complaint and she agreed it could have all been a huge misunderstanding.
