Man Wounded In Victorville Deputy-Involved Shooting

VICTORVILLE (CBSLA.com) — A man was in stable condition Wednesday after a routine traffic stop turned into a shootout with deputies.

The incident began around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday when deputies pulled over an SUV on Navarro Road in Victorville, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said.

Deputies approached the vehicle, which was carrying two men and a woman, when a male passenger fired shots at them after a brief conversation.

The shooter fled the scene on foot and was located by a sheriff's helicopter minutes later in a nearby desert area, officials said.

When deputies arrived on scene, the man opened fire again. Authorities returned fire and wounded the suspect before taking him into custody.

The suspect, who is in his late 20s, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
