Gaudreau Nets 3, Giordono Gets Winner For Flames
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — Mark Giordano scored 4:07 into overtime after Johnny Gaudreau had three goals in regulation -- including two in a 1:13 span late in the third period -- and the Calgary Flames rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night.
The Flames snapped an eight-game losing streak, dating to Dec. 6, and Calgary earned its first road win in nearly a month.
The Kings were in control before Gaudreau struck. He put a shot under goalie Jonathan Quick's left leg with 2:12 remaining in regulation and then sent another puck in off defenseman Drew Doughty with 59 seconds left for his 10th goal.
Jonas Hiller stopped 31 shots for the Flames, who had earned only three points in their previous nine games.
Trevor Lewis, Marian Gaborik and Jamie McBain scored for the Kings.
Lewis put the Kings ahead 2:26 into the game, taking the puck nearly the length of the ice before beating Hiller with a shot from the far edge of the circle. Hiller seemed to be in position to stop it, but the wobbly puck dipped under his glove and into the corner of the net.
Gaborik scored for the fifth straight game, netting a power-play goal from the edge of the crease with 2:10 left in the first to make it 2-0. He has seven goals in his spurt and 11 this season.
Gaborik's streak is his longest since 2011.
His resurgence coincides with the decision to put him, Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter on a line at the start of this homestand. Carter was kept off the score sheet, but Kopitar earned his ninth assist during a four-game point streak.
McBain also scored on the power play, taking Justin Williams' pass through the crease and putting it over Hiller's left shoulder with a one-timer at 4:32 of the second period.
The Kings lost for the first time in 10 home games this season in which they have scored on the power play.
Gaudreau's other goal came on the power play late in the second period.
