Mandatory Evacuation Orders Lifted For Camarillo Springs

CAMARILLO (CBSLA.com) — Camarillo Springs residents were allowed to return to their homes early Wednesday morning after mandatory evacuation orders were lifted.

The orders were issued around midnight as deputies went door-to-door asking residents to leave 124 homes on San Como Lane, Gitana Avenue and Itamo Lane, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

Crews also closed local streets and placed extra k-rails along roads in the subdivision as a precaution.

By 3:15 a.m., officials said the imminent threat of mud slides had passed and the evacuation order was lifted.

Deputies will continue to monitor the area through patrols and video surveillance.

Last week, a strong winter storm triggered mudslides in the community, forcing officials to red tag 10 homes.

Neighbors said they had never had any mud flow issues until after May 2013 when the Springs Fire burned vegetation in the nearby hillsides.

Officials plan to grade and make other changes to stabilize the hillside to prevent future slides.
