Man 'Extremely Critical' After Inmate Altercation At O.C. Jail

ORANGE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a man was in critical condition Tuesday night after an altercation with a fellow inmate at an Orange County jail.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department said in a written statement that the confrontation involving two inmates unfolded shortly before noon at Theo Lacy Jail.

The statement says the two male inmates, ages 39 and 49, got into a physical altercation inside the cell where they were housed.

Authorities responded and found the older inmate unconscious.

He was transported to a hospital, where he was listed in "extremely critical condition," the statement said.

The identity of those involved has not been released.

The altercation remains under investigation.
