Man, 25, Found Guilty In Fatal Stabbing Of Job Corps Counselor

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 25-year-old man was found guilty Monday of fatally stabbing a Job Corps counselor two years ago.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Freddy Leyva, of Los Angeles, was found guilty by jurors of first-degree murder.

A special allegation of personal use of a dangerous weapon, a knife, was also found to be true, jurors explained.

According to prosecutors, Leyva killed Dwayne Alexander on March 14, 2012, while living at a Job Corps facility in the 1200 block of Lodi Place.

Police explained Leyva stabbed Alexander multiple times before officers arrived on scene.

The district attorney's office explained he faces 26 years to life in state prison.

Leyva is expected to appear back in court on Jan. 13, 2015, for a sentencing arraignment.
