Man Sentenced To 6 Months In Jail For Stealing Piece Of Paul Walker's Car

SAN FERNANDO (CBSLA.com) — A man was sentenced Tuesday for stealing part of the Porsche that actor Paul Walker was riding in when he died.

Anthony Edward Janow, 26, was sentenced to six months in jail and three years probation.

Janow pleaded no contest Aug. 5 to one felony count of grand theft of personal property and one misdemeanor count each of destroying evidence and resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer.

Co-defendant Jameson Brooks Witty, 19, pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count each of grand theft of personal property, destroying evidence and resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer. Witty was sentenced Aug. 14 to 180 days in jail and three years probation.

The two were charged in the theft of a roof panel from a tow truck stopped at a red light while carrying the wreckage away from the Valencia crash site on Nov. 30, 2013.

The theft happened after Witty and Janow were told by a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy that they could not take any part of the vehicle.

The stolen panel was recovered by detectives who served a search warrant at a home in Canyon Country.

Authorities announced in March that high speed caused the fiery crash that killed Walker, 40, who was best known for "The Fast and the Furious" film series, along with the car's driver, Roger Rodas, 38.

Electronic information retrieved from the burned-out car's computer systems determined that Rodas was driving the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT at speeds between 80 and 93 mph when the car smashed into a pole and a tree.
