M3.6 Quake Rattles Desert Hot Springs Area; No Damage Reported

DESERT HOT SPRINGS (CBSLA.com) — An magnitude-3.6 earthquake struck Thursday near Desert Hot Springs, according to officials, but there were no reports of damages.

The quake jolted a sparsely populated area west of Highway 62 and about 10 miles north northwest of Palm Springs at around 8:53 a.m., according to the the U.S. Geological Survey.

Residents as far as Cathedral City, Thousand Palms and the Rancho Mirage area reported some shaking, officials said.

Earthquakes less than a magnitude-4 are perceptible but generally do not cause damage.
