Film Private Eye Philip Marlowe's Apartment In 'The Long Goodbye' Up For Rent

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An apartment deserving of its own IMDB page is available to rent for just $2,800 a month.

The one-bedroom, one-bath flat in the High Tower Court in Hollywood Hills was the scene of Robert Altman's 1973 film "The Long Goodbye," a cult classic starring Elliott Gould as private eye Philip Marlowe.

The listing, which was posted on Craigslist last week, says the apartment features expansive views of the city from floor-to-ceiling windows, a circular living room, and a private elevator. The apartment also has slightly more mundane amenities such as a private parking garage, a washer and dryer, hard wood floors and a terrace.

Located at the end of a cul-de-sac just a short walk from the Hollywood Bowl, the unit was also featured in Kenneth Branagh's 1991 film "Dead Again." Author Michael Connelly wrote there, and David Copperfield stayed for several years in the 1980s while performing at the nearby Magic Castle, according to the listing.

In the opening sequence of "The Long Goodbye," which was based on Raymond Chandler's book, Marlowe is seen in the apartment, trying to feed his cat and speaking to his neighbors – a group of hippie girls practicing yoga while topless.
