Man Confronted By Reality Show Gets Jail Time For Contracting Without License

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — A 66-year-old Irvine man was sentenced to 190 days in jail for operating without a contractor's license after being busted by the reality TV show "Catch a Contractor."

Myron Barker plead guilty this week in an Orange County courtroom to operating without a contractor's license for the second time.

KCAL9's Stacey Butler talked with Judy and Dave Wislocki, homeowners who said Barker left them high and dry after they paid him $22,000 for a kitchen remodel.

"He's getting what he deserves. Totally," said Judy Wislocki. "We thought he was a really nice guy and we trusted him."

The Wislockis said they were so frustrated they contacted the producers of a cable reality show, "Catch a Contractor" to confront Barker.

And in an episode that aired this spring, show host Adam Carolla, his professional contractor and the Wislockis did just that.

The show ended up building the Wislockis their dream kitchen and she told Butler she's excited about making Thanksgiving dinner.

But Judy Wislocki says she hopes Barker's conviction sends a clear message.

"They're prosecuting Myron is by far the best thing they could do to keep him away from other homeowners," she said.

Barker has to surrender to the Orange County Jail by January 16. An assistant DA in the case told Butler that Barker will have to serve a minimum of 95 days behind bars. Barker will also have to pay $10,000 in restitution to the victims.

"Catch a Contractor" airs on Spike TV.

In addition to being the show's host, Carolla -- known for "The Man Show" -- is also a skilled carpenter and home builder.
