Police: Pursuit Suspect Killed In Fiery Crash Linked To Woman's Death In Tustin

ORANGE COUNTY (CBSLA.com) — A police chase believed tied to the death of a woman in unincorporated Tustin ended Monday night in a fiery crash in Anaheim, killing the pursuit suspect.

Santa Ana police officers were in pursuit of a Chevrolet Tahoe when it plowed into a retaining wall on Rio Vista Street near the 91 Freeway.

An Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesperson says the suspect vehicle matches the description of a vehicle wanted in a homicide.

Authorities say the driver died in the crash.

The chase began in Santa Ana, where officers were told to be on the lookout for a vehicle related to a death investigation.

When officers found the vehicle, they say, the driver led them on a high-speed chase.

Investigators believe the suspect may have thrown an object from the vehicle at one point. At least two lanes of the 57 Freeway near Lincoln had been closed as authorities looked for evidence.

A Sheriff's Department spokesperson says an active death investigation is underway in Tustin after dispatch received a call around 7 p.m. reporting an injured woman. The woman was transported to a hospital, where she later died.

"The Santa Ana Police Department picked up the vehicle that we believed was related to this incident that resulted in a pursuit and ultimately a crash. We believe there is one adult male deceased in the crash," Lt. Jeff Hallock said.

It was not immediately clear how the pursuit suspect was connected to the woman's death.
