'The Basement' Is A Fright-Filled Puzzle

SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — Imagine being trapped in a room with rabid dogs, intense lights and startling noises. It might sound like a nightmare, but not for those actually paying to experience a real-life escape scenario.

An unusual attraction called "The Basement" is drawing crowds in Sylmar. KCAL9's Brittney Hopper checked out the adrenaline-pumping experience Tuesday evening.

On the outside it's just a warehouse, but what's inside has guests screaming, laughing and thinking.

There's only one way in, and one way out — that's if you can find your way out.

It's like you're in a video game. You and 11 friends get locked in a room and different clues lead you to the path of victory. But it's not as easy as you'd think.

"It's very tough to find the keys and clues and everything," said one of the people trying to find his way out Tuesday night. "You actually have to work for it."

And as you're working for it clues will confuse you, characters will scare you, and startling events will distract you.

"I thought it was incredible and I would come do it again," said one of Tuesday's participants.

Many do come back because many don't make it out in the 45 minutes they're given to solve the puzzle.

Creator Kayden Ressel spent months creating the escape room, wanting an experience like no other.

"With this it's way more immersive, so much story going on," Ressel said.
