Man Arrested After Woman Dies In Shadow Hills Crash

SHADOW HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A man was arrested Friday for second degree murder following a fatal traffic accident in the San Fernando Valley.

Luis Tapia, 28, of Sunland, was being held on $1 million bail, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The accident happened just after midnight in the 10100 block of Sunland Boulevard in Shadow Hills, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Witnesses said a black Nissan 370z, driven by Tapia, and a 2011 black Infinity G37 were driving eastbound on Sunland at a high rate of speed when the Infinity sheared a telephone pole and crashed.

"Despite firefighters' great efforts, utilizing cutting and prying tools to extricate the trapped victim, and provide medical aid, she was sadly determined dead on scene," the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The victim was identified as 38-year-old Claudia Perez.

"Based upon the circumstances of the collision and details of the investigation, it was determined that the driver of the black Nissan 370z contributed to the cause of the collision which resulted in the woman's death," Officer Brandon Tepper said.

Anyone with additional information about the accident should call the LAPD at (818)644-8020.
