LA City Attorney Charges Lake Balboa Woman With Cruelty, Neglect Of Dozens Of Animals

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — City Attorney Mike Feuer announced multiple charges Friday against a woman who is accused of having more than 30 dogs, five cats and two potbellied pigs at her Lake Balboa home.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Corey Deborah Carnegie, 50, was charged with one count of animal cruelty and three counts of animal neglect.

On July 8, officers responded to a tip of multiple animals that were being kept within a two bedroom, 1,680 square-foot home, located in the 6600 block of Louise Avenue.

Once on scene, police said they found 32 dogs on the property, which appeared to have skin conditions, flea infestation, fecal matter matted in their paws and fur, and strongly smelled of urine.

According to officers, the home was in extremely unsanitary conditions with an overwhelming odor and presence of urine and fecal matter, which made it difficult for officials to breathe.

Many dirty animal crates with soiled blankets and bedding were also observed in the home, officers explained.

All of the animals were removed from the property by Animal Services and are receiving veterinary care.

Carnegie's arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 19 in Van Nuys.

If convicted, she could face up to one year in jail and $20,000 in fines for each count of animal cruelty, and six months in jail with a $1,000 fine for each found of animal neglect.
