Leak From Refueling Barge In Long Beach Contained

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say they have contained the danger created by a leak from a listing refueling barge at the dock used by the Catalina Express in Long Beach.

The barge began taking on water at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Jake Heflin said.

The barge is used as a secondary fuel dispenser for the ferry, with a line connected to a 20,000-gallon tank. Heflin said he believed the line was shut down before any significant amount of fuel escaped.

"We don't anticipate any problems that would cause harm to the environment or harm to the port," Heflin said.

The barge leak is under investigation, he said.
