Crews Contain Masonry Building Fire In Boyle Heights

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters battled a structure fire Sunday at a Boyle Heights masonry building.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers first reported the blaze that erupted around 2:40 a.m. at Barrios Castings Company located in the 1400 block of South Lorena Street.

Once on scene, Los Angeles County firefighters found flames burning through the roof of a one-story metal casting firm.

Crews made entry through the security gates and rolling steel doors to attempt to put out the fire, however, structural compromise of the roof forced 92 firefighters into defensive mode with large hose streams outside.

Officials were able to prevent fire damage to a pair of adjoining businesses.

The fire was extinguished in the 7,200 square-foot building in just over an hour.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire and damage to the building are under investigation.
