Chargers Branden Oliver Voted As Pepsi Rookie Of Week

SAN DIEGO(CBSLA.com) — For the second straight week, San Diego Chargers running back Branden Oliver has been voted the Pepsi Rookie of the Week, the NFL announced Friday.

Starting as the team's fourth-string running back at the beginning of the season, Oliver has made the most of his opportunities as the Chargers' starting running back for the past two weeks due to major injuries to Danny Woodhead, Ryan Mathews and Donald Butler.

"I'm thanking God for the opportunity because I don't think I'd be in this position if not for him," said Oliver on the team's website. "So I'm keeping my focus on him rather than the headlines. I appreciate the fans and my family, and I'm just taking heed of my coaches' instructions and sacrificing for the team."

In his past two starts, Oliver has scored two touchdowns and has collected 215 yards rushing and 91 receiving.

Opening Day starting running back Ryan Mathews is expected to return to the field after the team's bye week (9).
