'80s Boy Band New Kids On The Block Receives Walk Of Fame Star

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The New Kids on the Block received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday.

The five boys from Boston — Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood — have sold more than 80 million albums worldwide over the past 30 years, with a discography that includes 10 Top Ten singles and five No. 1 hits.

KCAL9's Suzanne Marques attended the ceremony in Hollywood on Thursday.

Comedian and talk show host Arsenio Hall was on hand for the ceremony at 7072 Hollywood Boulevard, where fans from all over the U.S. and as far as Peru showed up to greet members of the boy band.

"Fans have been asking for quite a while now when the New Kids on The Block were going to get their star. We want to thank them for 'Hangin' Tough' for waiting patiently to hear the announcement of their favorite boy band star ceremony," Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies said.

Formed in Boston in 1984, New Kids On The Block smashed box office records in the early '90s with hits like "Please Don't Go Gir,l" "You Got It (The Right Stuff)," "Cover Girl," and "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time). After performing 200 concerts per year at stadiums across the globe, the group were named the highest-paid entertainers of 1990 by Forbes Magazine.

By 1994, NKOTB disbanded and went their own ways. By that time, they had sold 80 million albums, shattered concert box office records and grossed more than $1 billion.

In 2011, the original band members reunited and performed at Fenway Park with the Backstreet Boys and co-headlined The Package Tour along with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men in April 2013.

The band's star is on Hollywood Boulevard near the corner of La Brea Avenue.
