Person Dies After Surface-Street Crash In Palmdale

PALMDALE (CBSLA.com) — An early morning crash killed at least one person Saturday at the intersection of Avenue S and Sierra Highway in the south end of Palmdale, authorities said.

The crash took place at 3:50 a.m. as a vehicle stopped at a traffic signal on Avenue S was struck from behind, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lt. Frank Quichocho.

The person who died was in the vehicle that was stopped at the light, Quichocho said, but neither deputies nor Los Angeles County firefighters had determined if there was more than one person inside.

"We can't determine that," Quichocho told City News Service. "We know for sure there's one."

The driver of the other vehicle, a man in his 30s, was booked for driving under the influence, Quichocho said, and could face additional charges.
