Man Dies As Result Of Injuries Sustained In Oxnard Traffic Collision

OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — A 46-year-old man has died Saturday as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic collision earlier this week.

According to the Oxnard Police Department, the accident occurred on Monday just after 7:00 a.m. in the 3200 block of West Hemlock Street.

Once on scene, officers said they found a tow truck operator, Larry Caro Sr. of Piru, trapped underneath his vehicle.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Caro Sr.'s white 2007 international tow truck was parked with a black 2005 Jeep Liberty strapped on top of the flat bed, authorities said.

According to police, Caro Sr. was standing near the rear of the tow truck when he was struck by a pewter 2000 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by a 23-year-old female from Oxnard.

The impact of the collision caused him to be thrown under the tow truck, officials explained.

Authorities said Caro Sr. was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery for his injuries and was listed in critical condition.

The driver of vehicle was taken to St. Johns Regional Medical Center where she was treated for minor injuries, officers said.

It was unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.

At this time, no arrests have been made and the accident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is urged to contact police at (805) 385-7749.
