DUI Suspect Arrested After Fatally Striking Bicyclist In Huntington Beach
HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A suspected DUI driver was arrested after fatally striking a bicyclist in Huntington Beach on Monday evening.
The incident occurred on Bolsa Chica Road and Heil Avenue.
The victim, who was pronounced dead at the hospital, was in his 50s, and was said to be out riding with his family at the time of the crash.
While the driver's speeds at the time of the incident were unknown, the impact left notable damage to the vehicle — a white Mercedes.
"Basically, a drunk driver came and hit a guy on a bike," witness Travis White said. "He was with his family. He was solo on the bike, and behind him was his son. There nothing you could ever do to prepare to come upon something like that."
The son was not injured in the incident.
Neither the victim nor the suspect have yet been identified.
