LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed that it is investigating a possible domestic violence case involving suspended USC cornerback Josh Shaw.

LAPD Sgt. Barry Montgomery told CBS2 reporter Bobby Kaple that detectives are looking into reports of a Saturday night domestic violence incident, which may have involved Shaw and his girlfriend, at the Orsini Apartments complex near downtown.

“A radio call came out of the complex of a screaming woman,” Montgomery said.

Shaw’s attorney said the USC senior has spoken to police twice already, and will not speak to detectives again.

“We just need to talk to people and get the facts, and him choosing not to do so, it does hamper the investigation, however, the investigation will continue,” Montgomery said.

Shaw, who had been named a captain of the Trojans football team on Saturday, was suspended from all team activities on Wednesday after he admitted to lying about how he sprained both of his ankles over the weekend. He had told USC that he jumped from a second-story balcony on Saturday night to save his nephew from drowning during a pool party in Palmdale.

Police would not confirm a report on the Inside USC website that says Shaw left his girlfriend’s apartment after getting into a heated argument, only to return again. When police showed up, according to the source of the website’s report, Shaw jumped from her balcony, spraining his ankles.

Kaple said Friday that police do not believe Shaw to be a suspect in any criminal investigation, but want more information about Saturday’s events.
