Expert Tips On Choosing The Right Credit Card

Best Credit Cards For Gas:
• Bank of America BankAmericard Card Rewards Visa, 3% back on gas year round, no annual fee
• Pentagon Federal Credit Union Platinum Rewards Visa Signature Card, 5 points per dollar on gas, worth just over 4% cash back equivalent
• Rotating category cards like Discover it or Chase Freedom, which typically have 5% cash back bonuses 3-6 months each year (both have it right now)
Best Credit Cards For General Travel:
• BarclayCard Arrival Plus World Elite MasterCard; 2.2% cashback when you redeem for travel, Chip+PIN for travel overseas, $89 annual fee
• Chase Sapphire Preferred Visa, 2 points on travel and dining, 1 point on everything else. Points travels to many hotels and airlines, cool metal card, chip+signature, $95 fee
Best Credit Cards For Airlines:
• British Airways, 2.5 on BA, 1.25 Avios points per dollar. Can use points on American, Hawaiian and other global airlines, $95 fee
• Southwest Airlines Premier Visa Signature Card. 2 points on Southwest, and Rapid Rewards Hotel and Car Partners, 1 Point elsewhere, $99 fee
Best Credit Cards For Hotels:
• Starwood Preferred Guest Card from American Express. Earn 2 points at SPG hotels, 1 point everywhere. Points worth about 2% cash back. $65 annual fee
• Hilton Honors Surpass Card from American Express. Earn 12 points at Hilton hotels, 6 points at restaurants, supermarkets and gas stations, 3 points everywhere else. Worth about 5% cash back, 2.5% and 1.5%. $75 fee
Best Credit Cards Cash Back:
• Capital One QuickSilver – flat 1.5% everywhere, no annual fee
• US Bank Cash Plus – choose two 5% categories and one 2% category each quarter from a list. Make your own ideal card. Then 1% everywhere else. Have to apply in branch.
• Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, 6% at supermarkets, 3% at gas stations and department stores, 1% everywhere else, $75 annual fee
