Ventura House Fire Deemed Arson

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — Investigators have determined arson to be the cause of a Ventura County house fire that injured five people and killed one.

Homeowner Curtis Baker, 93, died Tuesday from injuries he sustained during the Sunday night fire in the 900 block of Burlington Avenue in Ventura.

Baker was in full cardiac arrest when he was pulled from the residence by a firefighter and bystanders.

"The victim resided at the residence with his wife and 6 other tenants who rented three rooms in the downstairs area of the residence," the Ventura Police Department said.

Investigators have ruled the fire to have been incendiary in nature and that it originated in the garage of the home.

The fire remains under investigation, authorities said.

Damages were estimated at $225,000.
