Woman Fatally Strikes Father With Car When He Tries To Stop Her From Driving Drunk

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Soukvilay Barton had been drinking and arguing with family members Friday night when police say she decided to leave their Riverside home.

The 37-year-old got into her car while her father pleaded with her not to drive while intoxicated, according to Riverside police Sgt. Dan Reeves.

Bounmy Rajsombath stood behind his daughter's BMW convertible in a last-ditch effort to stop her from leaving.

It was unclear whether Barton saw him when, shortly after 6 p.m., she backed her car out of the driveway, knocking her father to the ground, Reeves said.

She stopped the car after seeing he was injured, but it was too late.

Paramedics were called to the 14000 block of Bush Avenue, where they found the 69-year-old man lying in the driveway.

Rajsombath was later pronounced dead at Riverside Community Hospital, according to Reeves.

Policy say they've arrested Barton, a Riverside resident, on suspicion of DUI, with other charges pending.

Anyone with further information was asked to contact Detective Rick Prince at (951) 826-8722.
