ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) — Officials believe a man killed another man an apartment complex in Ontario before turning the gun on himself.
Police said what they believe is a murder-suicide took place on Deusenberg Drive.
KCAL9’s Crystal Cruz reported from the scene.
Initially, first responders believed the first victim was killed during a burglary. The man’s body was found just inside the apartment and the door was kicked in.
Police wouldn’t reveal the name of the victim or the person suspected to have shot them both until their families could be notified.
Officials said the two men knew each other but didn’t say in what capacity.
Authorities did say the unidentified shooter was 56 years of age.
Neighbors said they heard as many as eight shots.
“He was inside the apartment and deceased and it appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” said Sgt. Jeff Higbee of the Ontario Police Department about person suspected in the shooting.
The victim was found shot to death in doorway of the apartment above.
“Whenever we got close enough to see what was going on, the police started yell at us that someone was shooting from the window and to get back,” neighbor Sarah Joe Antonucci said.
