Tustin Man Arrested In Connection With Dozens Of ATM Thefts Across OC

ALISO VIEJO (CBSLA.com) – Authorities have arrested a Tustin man who is suspected of having stolen as many as 24 ATM machines across Orange County over the course of the last year, officials said Tuesday.

Daniel Eamon Sweeny, 40, was arrested Sunday following a weeks-long investigation into the theft of a stolen ATM from inside a Laguna Niguel business in February, according to Lt. Jeff Hallock of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators say Sweeny had been observed driving around various areas in the early morning hours appearing to be casing commercial buildings as targets for possible thefts.

Sheriff's deputies stopped Sweeny on June 8 while driving a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee in the Mission Viejo area, at which point he was taken into custody for possession of stolen property, Hallock said.

Sweeny was booked into Orange County Jail for possession of stolen property and is being held on $500,000 bail.

A security camera captured a figure in a darkened store, carting off a cash machine.
