LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti on Monday promised a “doozy” of a hockey bet with New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, with the LA Kings posed to take on the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup finals.
When the Kings defeated both the Ducks and the Blackhawks on their road to the finals, Garcetti previously won bets with Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait, and with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, respectively.
“Rahm Emanuel is already in my wake,” Garcetti said. “I’m coming after you, Bill.”
While the details of the wager are still in the works, Garcetti said, “It’s going to be a doozy. Stay tuned for the bet — the big bet.”
In the wager with Chicago’s mayor Emanuel, Garcetti promised that, if he lost, he would deliver some Original Tommy’s chili, a copy of the film “End of Watch”, wine from the San Antonio Winery in downtown Los Angeles, a copy of Raymond Chandler’s “The Big Sleep”, and Roy Choi’s “L.A. Son: My Life, My City, My Food.”
Emanuel, meanwhile, bet some Chicago favorites, including a six pack from Chicago’s Half Acre Brewing Co., and a mix of famous Chicago popcorn.
With that bet in the past and under his belt, Garcetti is looking to New York for another friendly wager.
Garcetti congratulated the Kings for their Stanley Cup finals berth, which is set to begin at Staples Center on Wednesday.
“You made us really, really proud,” Garcetti said.
