Critically-Acclaimed Performer, Writer Releases Comedic Book On Dysfunctional Chicago Upbringing

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Cindy Caponera has just penned a book that offers a comedic take on her growing up on the Southside of Chicago and how that shaped her as an actress, writer and producer.

In "I Triggered Her Bully," the Second City alum uses humor in a collection of essays that reveal poignant truths about insecurity, childhood trauma and dysfunctional families.

The critically-acclaimed performer and writer visited KCAL9 Studios Saturday to discuss the book, which "looks both outward and inward with fearless honesty and wicked wit."

Her first solo show, Against the Grain, debuted in Chicago to rave reviews. She followed this with the critically acclaimed The Debutante Ball, which played in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and the HBO Comedy Festival in Aspen. Cookies and Booze, her third solo show, has been seen at the HBO Workshop Stage and the Comedy Central Stage in Los Angeles.

Her television writing credits include NBC's Saturday Night Live, and Showtime's Shameless and Nurse Jackie. She has also developed comedies and dramas for HBO, FOX, Showtime, ABC and CBS.

She has appeared on many television shows and performs regularly on the LA essay-reading circuit which includes, Sit & Spin, Say The Word, Scratch It, and Word-a-Rama.
