'Nashoba's Gold' Wins $200K Honeymoon Stakes At Santa Anita
ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Nashoba's Gold won the $200,250 Honeymoon Stakes by a length at Santa Anita on Sunday for her second straight stakes victory.
Ridden by Joe Talamo, Nashoba's Gold ran 1 1/8 miles on the turf in 1:48.61 and paid $3.40, $2.60 and $2.20 as the odds-on favorite.
Sweet Bliss returned $13.20 and $5.60 as the longest shot in the field of six at 29-1, and Diversy Harbor was another nose back in third and paid $2.60 to show.
Nashoba's Gold earned $120,000 for the victory, her third win in four career starts for the gray filly trained by Carla Gaines.
"We had a great trip," said Talamo, who rode sister Nashoba's Key to his first Grade 1 win when he was 17. "Once you get the momentum going, she's like a freight train. She was amazing. I never did hit her. I just urged her a little bit and once she got in front, she just coasted home."
