Cement Truck Overturns In Beverly Hills Near Where LAPD Officer Was Killed

BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) — The driver of a cement truck was injured Friday after the vehicle overturned in the same area where an LAPD officer was killed in March.

The accident took place around 11 a.m. in the 100 block of Loma Vista Drive, Beverly Hills police said.

"We've gotten new information that says the truck was possibly now traveling in a southbound direction, lost control, and struck parked cars, and ended up on its side," Lt. Renato Moreno told CBS2's Cristy Fajardo.

Police said the driver was ejected. He was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.

"The extent of his injuries is not known but he's expected to survive," the lieutenant said.

About a block away, 40-year-old LAPD Officer Nicholas Lee was killed on March 7 after the driver of a dump truck lost control and struck his police cruiser. Investigators believe the truck's brakes may have failed, but the incident remains under investigation.

The collision remains under investigation.
