IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — Two people were killed Thursday morning and several were others injured in a two-car crash on the northbound 5 Freeway in Orange County.

The accident, between a white van and a sedan, happened at 4:40 a.m. near the Jamboree Road on-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It was unclear what caused the accident, but two people died at the scene, the OC Fire Authority said.

Five others were transported to a local hospital, but their conditions were not immediately available.

All northbound lanes were shut down as a result of the accident.
