Man Confronts Suspected Burglar After Returning Home From Church

OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 65-year-old resident returning from church services stumbled upon an apparent burglary attempt in his home on Friday evening.

Oxnard police said in a written statement that the resident had returned to his home in the 1400 block of Marsella Drive around 8:30 p.m. and found the suspect.

The statement says a struggle ensued between the homeowner and the suspect, who sustained a laceration to his head.

The homeowner's wife contacted authorities, and the suspect was subsequently arrested and booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of residential burglary, police said.

The suspect was identified by authorities as 18-year-old Rogelio Colchado Madrigal of Oxnard.

"The subject was found to have property belonging to the victim," the statement alleged.

Police also said it's believed a second person may have been working with the suspect.

Anyone with more information about this case was asked to call the Oxnard Police Department Property Crimes Unit at (805) 385-7605.
