Record-Breaking Temperatures Set Around Southland

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Spring forward ...  to summer?

The 2 p.m. temperature of 83 degrees at Los Angeles International Airport broke the old record of 82, according to the National Weather Service.

The mercury hit 88 in Santa Monica where thousands of marathon runners sweated through the L.A. Marathon.

Other 2 p.m. readings included 87 at Long Beach and Fullerton, 86 at Torrance, 85 at Hawthorne and a steamy 81 at Avalon.

Inland deserts were cooler, with 81 reported at Palm Springs and 79 at Palmdale.

The springtime heat wave expected to end Monday, but a "potentially strong Santa Ana" wind event was predicted for Tuesday night, Wednesday and Thursday morning, the NWS said.
