Police: Man, 18, Killed By Hit-And-Run Drivers After Laying Down On Lake Balboa Street

LAKE BALBOA (CBSLA.com) — Officials have released the name of a pedestrian who was killed Friday night by two hit-and-run drivers in the San Fernando Valley.

LAPD investigators believe it was an intended suicide.

Michael Alvarez, 18, got down and lay on the street, in the 15900 block of Victory Boulevard, at 9:35 p.m. before two westbound vehicles ran him over, Detective Bill Bustos reported.

Based on witness accounts, the first vehicle that hit Alvarez may have been a late-model silver Honda Accord or Nissan Altima.

Alvarez was soon after struck by a second vehicle that reportedly appeared to be a late '90s Accord.

"The driver actually got out, and chose to go back into the car, and then drove away. We're looking for that individual to please contact us. We want to know more about what happened...That individual is described as a male, of Middle Eastern decent, with salt-and-pepper hair," Bustos said.

Evidence at the scene suggested the second vehicle should have been able to stop because it was far enough back to see the victim lying on the street.
