Inglewood Man Pleads No Contest To Fatal Hit-And-Run Of Santa Monica Mom
INGLEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A 38-year-old man pleaded no contest Wednesday to a hit-and-run that killed a Santa Monica woman as she was strapping a toddler into a car seat.
Jesus Cazares, of Inglewood, was immediately sentenced to one year in LA County jail, followed by three years probation, along with a six-month alcohol program.
Superior Court Judge Dudley Gray suspended a three-year state prison term, which Cazares will not have to serve if he complies with the terms of his probation.
Cazares struck a 47-year-old woman with his pickup truck just as she was leaving a birthday party. She was helping put her toddler cousin into a car seat when she was hit on Oak Street between Nectarine and Olive streets.
Cazares turned himself into Inglewood police a day after the crash.
