1 Dead, 1 Injured In Crash On The 210 In Sylmar

SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — A man who had just gotten out of his car following a traffic accident on the 210 Freeway in Sylmar was fatally struck by another vehicle, according to the CHP.

A second man suffered minor injuries in the secondary crash, which happened just after noon on the eastbound side of the freeway West of Yarnell Street, authorities said.

The deceased was identified as Daniel Berumen Jr. of Santa Clarita, said Lt. Joe Bale of the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.

Berumen, 31, got into a noninjury crash with a vehicle driven by 64-year-old Jorge Magana of Novato. Berumen was out of his vehicle in the number three lane when a vehicle driven by 63-year-old Javier Naranjo of Moreno Valley hit the rear of Magana's vehicle, according to the CHP.

Naranjo's vehicle careened and struck Berumen, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP reported.

Magana suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, authorities said.
