FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — Parents of a 5-year-old girl found dead in Fontana were in custody Friday in connection with her death.

Patrol officers responded to a child not breathing call in the 16000 block of Dorsey Avenue around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Irene Carreles, 25, and 34-year-old Jesse Giron were arrested after their 5-year-old daughter was found dead with obvious signs of neglect and abuse, police said.

Both are facing a charge of an assault resulting in death of a child under 8.

Child and Family Services responded to take custody of the other children living in the home.

The case was under investigation.
