Pasadena Ranks 2nd 'Gayest City In America'

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Pasadena has been ranked the second "Gayest City in America" for 2014 by The Advocate magazine.

The rankings were based on six categories: LGBT elected officials, lesbian-coupled households, gay rodeos, gay bars on "Out" magazine's best gay bars list, women's colleges and concerts by Mariah Carey, Pink, Lady Gaga and the Jonas Brothers.

The home of the Rose Parade, which was ranked number two out of 15 on the annual list, was described in the magazine as "a kind of bedroom community for gays who like to garden, gets its high ranking primarily from having two gay elected city officials for its relatively small population, and a fractional boost from California's many statewide elected LGBTs."

Four of the 15 cities listed are in California.

Here are the rankings:

1. Washington D.C.

2. Pasadena, Calif.

3. Seattle, Wash.

4. Cambridge, Mass.

5. Atlanta, Ga.

6. St. Louis, Mo.

7. Madison, Wisc.

8. Salt Lake City, Uah

9. Oakland, Calif.

10. Arlington, Va.

11. San Francisco, Calif.

12. Rochester, N.Y.
