LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County prosecutors say a woman has pleaded no contest to swindling an 81-year-old widower with dementia after taking out singles ads seeking senior men.

A district attorney’s statement says 53-year-old Myrta Molina entered the plea Monday to one felony count of theft from an elder or dependent adult. She was sentenced to about eight months in jail and five years’ probation.

Prosecutors said in court documents that Molina placed the ads under fictitious names in senior citizen newsletters. They say one drew the 81-year-old man to contact Molina, who convinced him she loved him and had him withdraw $26,000 in cash for her over six months.

Molina was also ordered to pay $6,500 in restitution, stay away from the victim and refrain from placing ads seeking relationships.
