ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Pontchatrain won the $200,000 Monrovia Stakes for older fillies and mares by three-quarters of a length at Santa Anita on Sunday.

Ridden by Gary Stevens, Pontchatrain ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the downhill turf course in 1:11.14 and paid $4.20, $2.40 and $2.10 as the even-money favorite. It was the 4-year-old filly’s third straight stakes win on the turf under Stevens.

Kindle returned $3.20 and $2.60, while Purim’s Dancer was another 1 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $3.60 to show. Tom Proctor trains both Pontchatrain and Purim’s Dancer.

The victory, worth $120,000, increased Ponchatrain’s career earnings to $324,882, with five wins in seven starts.
