COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — A fight between two people at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa created a scare Friday night after one of the shoppers claimed the other had a gun.

The altercation happened at the Salvatore Ferragamo store around 7:30 p.m.

KCAL9’s Stacey Butler reports one of the customers told a clerk that a man brandished a weapon. The clerk contacted authorities.

Police later detained the suspected gunman, but then released him when it was determined the threat was unfounded and no gun was discovered.

No other information was made available.
