Alleged Cockfighting Operation Busted In Rialto

RIALTO (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say they've arrested three men on suspicion of animal cruelty after breaking up an alleged cockfighting operation in the city of Rialto.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department responded to a commercial structure in the 300 block of Jurupa Avenue following a report of "cockfighting in progress."

Upon arriving on scene, officials said the crowd of about 50 people dispersed.

The incident was subsequently turned over to Rialto police, who arrested three Mexican nationals, on charges of animal cruelty.

The situation unfolded about 11 a.m. on Saturday, said officials.

Authorities said 20 live roosters and ten dead birds were recovered at the location, which had been the site of previous undisclosed arrests.

No further information was immediately available.
