740 Marijuana Plants, $100K In Equipment Found At Whittier Businesses

WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — Officers responding to a burglar alarm at a Whittier business found 740 marijuana plants and an estimated $100,000 worth of growing equipment at an adjacent welding company, police said.

Officers conducting a sweep of the area after an alarm sounded at a business in the 8100 block of Byron Road at about 2:06 a.m. saw a door had been pried open at the Welded Fixture Company, Whittier police Officer Brad White said.

"Officers checked the building and discovered a large marijuana grow inside the business," White said.

Officers seized 740 plants, which were in various stages of maturity, along with $100,000 worth of lighting and irrigation equipment, he said.

No arrests were made and the case remains under investigation.
