GLENDALE (AP) — The circus is coming to Glendale but the zebras, horses and other exotic animals are staying home.

The Los Angeles Times reported Sunday that Glendale officials have requested all four-legged animals, except for dogs and cats, be kept out of the show when the Ramon Bros. Circus hits town next week.

The request follows a camel’s escape last year. The animal was quickly captured.

One of the circus’ owners, Brad Wright, asked the Glendale City Council to allow the animals, saying they are well cared for.

But officials replied that it is too late to change the no-animal agreement they had previously reached.

Wright says he’s most disappointed for young circus-goers.

Seeing a circus without wild animals, Wright says, is like being at a birthday party without a cake.
