Suspect Arrested In Slaying Of Store Clerk Who Was Mother Of 5

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Police Department Thursday announced the arrest of a suspect in the slaying of a store clerk who was killed during an attempted robbery in September.

Martha Sanchez, the mother of five, was gunned down Sept. 14 while working at the Happy Bargain 99 Cent Store at 74th and Broadway.

The suspect shot the 39-year-old woman multiple times.

At the time of the slaying, police said they had surveillance video but did not specify what the tapes showed.

The shooting occurred several blocks from the LAPD's 77th Street Station.

Last month, police stepped up the hunt for the suspect, releasing a part of their surveillance video, which showed the suspect running from the store just after Sanchez was shot, KNX1070's Pete Demetriou reports. Officials did not say if the case broke as a result of the release of the video.
