Arraignment Postponed For Husband Of Montebello Mayor

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Arraignment was postponed Thursday for the husband of the mayor of Montebello, who was scheduled to be in court on six felony counts of selling methamphetamine near a school.

KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reports Ruben Guerrero, 44, was arrested Oct. 17 after Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigators set up an undercover operation.

He has been charged with three counts each of possession for sale of a controlled substance and sale or transportation of a controlled substance.

Guerrero, the husband of Montebello Mayor Christina Cortez, is free after posting $60,000 bail last month.

Cortez has expressed shock and disappointment over her husband's alleged actions, and is urging the public to let the investigation play itself out.

A complaint from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office alleges Guerrero sold methamphetamine on three separate occasions — Sept. 26, Oct. 2 and Oct. 15 — within 1,000 feet of Montebello Intermediate School.

If convicted, Guerrero faces up to 11 years in state prison.
