2nd Baby In 24 Hours Born In Car On The Way To The Hospital

CUDAHY (CBSLA.com) — Babies seem eager to get out into the world this week, with another child born in the car on the way to the hospital early Thursday.

A baby girl was born in a parking lot in the 7500 block of Atlantic Avenue after her mother went into premature labor at about midnight. The family — husband, wife and wife's mother — was on the way to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood when labor began and the baby's head appeared.

A member of the family told a videographer at the scene the mother-to-be told her husband to pull over, and the baby was delivered in the parking lot.

The birth process was complete by the time Los Angeles County Fire paramedics arrived.

Mother and baby were taken to their original destination, and their condition Thursday morning was not known.

This was the second early-morning roadside birth in Southern California in just 24 hours. A woman being taken to a hospital in Orange County gave birth in a car on the shoulder of the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Santa Ana at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday.
