Man Gets 47 Years For Murdering Girlfriend, Dumping Body Out Of Moving Car

COMPTON (AP) — A man who shot his girlfriend and shoved her body from a moving car has been sentenced to 47 years to life in state prison.

City News Service reports 31-year-old Juan Valencia was sentenced Wednesday in Compton. He was convicted earlier this month of second-degree murder in the September 2012 death of Selene Mayoral.

Prosecutors said Valencia shot the 24-year-old Cudahy woman in the head after Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies stopped his car for a traffic violation. He then drove off, stopping only to dump the body, and after a chase barricaded himself in a Hawthorne apartment.

He surrendered there the next day after a standoff.

Authorities say Valencia was high on methamphetamine at the time of the murder.
